Insectopel is an innovative, plant-derived insect-repellent technology developed by FBoost Agro Pvt. Ltd. that aims to provide an alternative to conventional chemical insect killers by shifting insect management from killing insects to preventing insect contact through repellency. Its key innovation lies in the use of PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol), derived from citronella essential oil, together with a proprietary in-situ PMD-enrichment process that enables development of a more standardized and concentrated active system compared with conventional citronella-based formulations. Unlike many conventional chemical insecticides that rely on synthetic insecticidal actives to kill insects and may raise concerns related to repeated exposure, chemical residues, environmental persistence and development of insecticide resistance, Insectopel is designed around a plant-derived, biodegradable and DEET-free repellent approach. Its water–ethanol formulation provides a convenient, non-greasy application system, while the PMD-based mechanism discourages insects from approaching treated areas rather than depending primarily on insect mortality. Therefore, Insectopel can potentially reduce dependence on repeated use of conventional synthetic insect-killing chemicals and provide a more environmentally oriented option for household, outdoor and agricultural applications. Importantly, its innovation should not be presented as completely eliminating all risks associated with chemical insecticides; rather, it offers a potentially safer and more sustainable complementary alternative, subject to appropriate efficacy, toxicological, residue and environmental validation.
