Material Science & Technical Textiles Challenges: 1. Optical Limitation in extreme heat and flame: Presently, there is no effective solution available for eye protection at 84 kW/m² heat flux, 1000°C temperature, or under direct flame exposure, while such protection is critically required in multiple industries including the following: 1. Fire Safety Industry during Fire Entry Operations 2. Oil & Gas Industry 3. Defence 4. Iron & Steel Industry 5. Manufacturing Sector 6. Aviation Industry 7. Other heat-intensive industrial applications Present Solutions: i. FR Polycarbonate Sheet: It melts at around 250–300°C and deformation starts at around 130–150°C. ii. FR Glass / Quartz: It blocks flame but does not provide sufficient heat insulation, resulting in high heat transfer to the user. Brief Description of Product & Innovation: Since there is currently no indigenous transparent solution capable of providing protection in direct flame and extreme heat conditions of 1000°C or above, we aim to develop a device/material or a combination of materials that can provide effective protection against direct flame and extremely high heat while being integrated with headgear. Indian Patent Filing: NRDC has shortlisted this product for national-level patent filing under its national innovation support scheme and has filed a provisional national patent application based on the progress achieved so far. The National Patent Application Number is: 202511057254 – Provisional. Use Case: This innovation will enable users to safely see and operate in extremely high-temperature environments including 1000°C or above, while also protecting against direct flame exposure. The device will significantly enhance operational safety and allow critical work activities to continue in hazardous environments. This solution will support multiple industries, including: • Fire Safety Services (Fire Entry Operations) • Manufacturing Industry • Iron & Steel Industry • Oil & Gas Sector • Transportation • Pharmaceuticals • Chemicals Industry • Food Processing • Mining & Agriculture • Defence & Maritime Operations 2.Technical Textiles: Secondly, there is a gap in the Indian Industry for Meta Aramid and Para aramid fabric (advance technical textiles), which we need to procure from USA (DUPONT), hence we have done work over bamboo & Hemp fibers followed by certain process and made a Natural fiber based FR fabric, which is more durable as well comfortable supportive for a longer duration compared to the USA BASED Product. Still some more work is yet to be done in this segment by us and we hope with few more trials, we would be able to develop a final solution, which will replace the need of Import of such advance technical textiles. For the sake of further trials in this direction, we are in process of making tie ups with a few corporates, to get this task finalize.
