Urban India continues to face significant challenges in open drain management due to ineffective cleaning and silt handling practices. Drains often get choked with accumulated silt and solid waste, leading to severe waterlogging during monsoons. Existing methods such as tractor-trolleys, open dump carriers, and roadside piling of silt result in spillage, environmental contamination, and delayed disposal. These practices not only reduce the efficiency of drain maintenance but also increase health risks for sanitation workers who are exposed to hazardous waste during manual handling. Despite initiatives like Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 and AMRUT 2.0, there remains a critical gap in the availability of a standardized, mechanized system specifically designed for open drain desilting and silt transportation. To address this issue, the Open Drain Silt Carrier (ODSC) is proposed as a practical and innovative solution. The ODSC is a user-friendly, mechanized utility vehicle designed for the safe collection, containment, transportation, and controlled disposal of drain silt. It focuses on upgrading existing systems rather than introducing complex technology, ensuring easy adoption by sanitation workers with minimal training. This solution enhances operational efficiency, reduces environmental risks, and improves worker safety and dignity. ODSC is a mulipurpose Utility Vehicle which can also carry solid waste like Malba ,Dry Garbage etc.
